The so-called “Globe Speed Day” will close off parts of Bonifacio Global City (BGC), so that they could run a Formula Renault 3.5 from the Lotus F1 Junior Team around the city center. The main idea behind this show is to give Filipinos a taste of Formula 1, but with a screaming 530 horsepower 3.4L V8 instead of the leaf blowers used in the 2014 season. I guess the message they're trying to get across has something to do with Globe's “fastest and most modern network.” (Their words, not ours.) And the handsome gentleman who'll be in charge of driving duties is none other than Globe Telecom's favorite race car driver, Marlon Stockinger.
They're tight lipped over the track layout, but we're guessing that it should lap around Globe Telecom's headquarters located at the 32nd Street corner 7th Avenue in BGC.
It's safe to say that, without Globe Telecom, Marlon Stockinger wouldn't be racing in Formula Renault 3.5 with the Lotus F1 Junior Team. 2014 marks the Filipino-Swiss driver's second year in the series. More importantly, it's also the second year he's been backed by the telco giant. Hopefully, this partnership is strong enough to get Marlon a seat in Formula 1.
