GP2 racer Marlon Stockinger has returned to his former team Lotus for the Formula Renault 3.5 meeting at the Red Bull Ring this weekend. The Filipino-Swiss driver takes the seat regularly occupied this season by Meindert van Buuren, who moves across to Pons Racing alongside Manor Formula 1 racer Roberto Merhi. Status Grand Prix rookies Richie Stanaway and Marlon Stockinger brought their cars home in 11th and 19th place respectively in the team’s maiden GP2 Sprint race. Both drivers made clean starts but Stockinger found himself boxed in at turn two. With Stockinger unable to maintain track position Stanaway got the jump on his team mate ending the first lap in twelth place. Lotus F1 Junior joins Canadian team Status Grand Prix confirms Lotus F1 Junior driver Marlon Stockinger as the first signing of their inaugural GP2 campaign. The 23–year-old Filipino-Swiss driver returns to the Silverstone based team where he contested the 2012 GP3 Series, achieving two podiums and a race win at the iconic Monaco GP. Marlon remained close to the team while racing in Formula Renault 3.5 and has chosen to return to the squad for his GP2 race debut. |
